Bronson FD produces short film calling for volunteer firefighters
As the landscape of volunteer firefighting continues to face recruiting challenges, one rural department is turning to cinematic storytelling to find the next generation of firefighters.
According to Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber, there’s an abundance of opportunities available to those who serve as volunteer firefighters. In addition to the deep sense of pride and purpose that comes from serving your community, the skills learned in emergency response can launch many careers in healthcare, bio-science, engineering, and more.
In the 3-minute short film released on May 27th, viewers get a sense of the hard work that goes into becoming and serving as a volunteer. More than 300 hours of training are required before a new recruit can suit up for the real thing. “But once the training is complete, most recruits end up admitting they wish they would have joined sooner,” says Wilber.
Filmed in the summer of 2020, the short film releases as part of a #BRONSONRECRUIT social media campaign that seeks to connect qualified men and women with a noble line of work and the tight-knit team at Bronson Fire.
